Satyarth Prakash

19. "Moreover, to Moses gave we "The Book" and we, raised up apostles after him; and to Jesus, son of Mary, gave we clear proofs of his mission, and strengthened him by the Holy Spirit. So oft then as an apostle cometh to you with that which your souls desire not, swell ye with pride, and treat some as imposters, and slay others." (2: 81)

C. ~ When the Qoran bears witness to this that God gave the book of law to Moses, it is incumbent on Mohammedans to believe it. All the defects found therein, will therefore, be regarded as those of the Muslim religion itself. The story of miracles seems to have been connocted with a view to play upon the credulity of simple and ignorant people. All things which are against the laws of nature are false. If miracles could be wrought in those days, why can't they be done now-a-days? If no miracles can be worked now, it is certain that none were wrought in days gone by.

The Response

Swamiji touches the same point again and again with the express object of increasing the number of doubts. The answer to this query has already been given in Response 14. To state here briefly, the Quran orders us to accept the authority of all the books that were revealed to the Prophets and that originally these books contained no defect. But at the same time, the Quran points out the changes that have been introduced in those books from time to time.

Concerning miracles, a detailed response has been given in Response 14. If, indeed, believing in an All-Powerful God is not unreasonable, then why would it not be reasonable to believe God doing things, which, under the normal course of events, do not happen? Now, miracles were given to the Prophets by God Almighty, in order that no excuse remains for those who reject the truth. Many times the rejecters of the truth demanded miracles from the Prophets, who at first were reluctant to show the miracles. It is strange that Swamji on one hand questions the existence of miracles but on the other hand himself believes that in the beginning of this world men and women were created by God as adults (See Satyarth Prakash chapter 8). May we ask, why humans are not longer created as adults? Which reason accepts that humans popping out of think air as adults? If all things that breach the laws of nature are false then Vedas are false too.
